The Yukon Avalanche Association, a not-for-profit organization, was formed in 2010 to promote avalanche safety and awareness among backcountry users. Since 2011, the YAA has partnered with Avalanche Canada to deliver an avalanche forecast for the White Pass, and each year delivers 3-4 public outreach events. The YAA has also developed Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES) maps, brochures and roadside signage for the White Pass and Haines Summit regions, as well as a detailed terrain atlas.
As a not-for-profit, the YAA depends on public funds and memberships. You can help by becoming a member, volunteering at our events or joining the board at our May AGM. Members do not have to be experts, and your commitment will help us to advocate for continued funding and awareness.
